Important Update on Eligibility Verification Dates
----------------------------------------------------
As noted in a recent NewsReal, you will need to update your records this fall to ensure your dependents and travel eligibles receive the benefits they are entitled to, and that those who are not eligible do not receive them.

In response to requests from numerous employees, United has extended the grace period and deadline for submitting documentation to provide you additional time to acquire and submit the supporting documents.

Please make note of the new dates:

Dec. 14, 2007: Grace Period Ends. Completed validation form for ineligible dependents/travel eligibles due

Jan. 31, 2008: Completed validation form and all supporting documentation due

Feb. 1, 2008: If documents are incomplete or not received by January 31, individuals listed as travel eligibles and/or dependents will no longer receive benefits and/or travel privileges effective Feb. 1, 2008.

A toll-free Eligibility Verification Help Line is available at 1-800-899-0572 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday.

For callers outside the U.S. or Canada, United has arranged for international calls to be connected, free of charge. Simply follow the steps listed in the Q&A available from the Department News section of SkyNet.

United Announces Enhancements to Pleasure Travel/NRSA Policy

United is enhancing its pleasure travel policy for United, United Express and Mileage Plus travel-eligible employees, retirees and travel-eligible family members.

Several changes will take effect Nov. 1, 2007:

* First, we will no longer assess service charges for U.S. domestic and international flights in United Economy on United and Ted. We will continue to waive service charges for travel in United Economy on United Express. Applicable transportation taxes and fees will continue to apply.

* Second, Performance Incentive service charge-waived flight segments, which are provided when we meet our reliability and customer goals, will have their usage period lengthen from one year to two years. This will give employees more time to take advantage of the awards. Any Performance Incentive segments that remain in your "bank" as of Nov. 1, 2007, will expire two years after the date of issuance. You can see how many segments you have by visiting WebList and clicking "My Coupons."

* Employees who list themselves in United First or United Business using Performance Incentive segments but who are ultimately seated in service charge-waived United Economy will have their Performance Incentive segments returned to their "bank" of unused segments.

* Next, we're simplifying the way pleasure travel service charges for United First and United Business are calculated that, in many cases, will reduce the cost. Premium cabin travel prices will be based on a new zonal fee structure, matching the Zonal Employee Discount (ZED) service charge structure currently used on some interline carriers. ZED pricing is based on the mileage between a point-to-point origin and destination.

* Premium cabin prices will be discounted 65 percent off ZED fares for U.S. domestic travel and discounted 50 percent off ZED fares for international travel.

* The cost for travel to Hawaii, which we've traditionally priced separately from other U.S. domestic travel, will be calculated in the same way as mainland domestic.

* To assist employees in determining cabin pricing, the calculator on WebList will soon be updated so you can quickly and easily see the new pricing.

* To make premium cabin pricing more consistent between mainline and United Express, we will be introducing the discounted ZED service charges for travel in the United First cabin on United Express.

* Finally, in the first quarter of 2008, United employees, retirees and travel-eligible individuals will board United Express flights based on company hire date or years and months of service, according to United's travel policy. This will replace the current boarding at BP-8C, same day, time of check-in policy.

* As always, United Express employees will board first on their own carrier,

before other non-revenue, space-available travelers. For example, when the aircraft is operated by SkyWest, the boarding priority would be the SkyWest traveler, the United traveler, and then other United Express partner travelers.

* Separately, we are reviewing our companion travel policy and will keep you posted if we make any changes to this travel privilege.

"We are pleased to introduce these enhancements to our travel policy," says Pete McDonald, executive vice president and chief operating officer. "The changes are an acknowledgement of the value we place on our employees and our commitment to improving the employee experience, while making our travel policy more consistent across the company and more competitive within the industry."

A letter that details these changes will be mailed to employees and retirees in the near future.

Question:

I just got an E-mail from "Employee-Pass@ United.com" stating that my Credit card info needed to be updated (expiry date). They indicated I should visit the "UAL EMPLOYEE PASS TRAVEL" payment system and select "Edit Account Option" and then said ....Thank you for using the
UAL EMPLOYEE PASS TRAVEL payment system. After several hours searching for these links on United.com and "Skynet" I give up. Does anyone know where good old United has hidden these links.

Answer:
From off-duty co-Moderator Pete Sofman:

Sign onto Skynet ==> Travel ==> Travel Invoice (under Travel Tools)
==> View Web Transaction ==> if you are already registered with a user ID and password for the Electronic Payment System, then log in with User ID and password (if NOT already registered with the Electronic Payment System, click on "REGISTER" at the bottom of the screen) ==> Manage Accounts ==> Highlight the credit card that needs an updated expiration date, and then click on Edit Account ==> update the expiration date

Several not-so-obvious steps along that route.

Good luck.

Pete

Booking Process on united.com Enhanced with More Flight-Search Capabilities and Simplified Navigation

----------- --------- --------- --------- --------- ----
Google It on SkyNet
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ----
Google technology has been incorporated into SkyNet, giving employees the ability to surf for company information with just one mouse click -- and receive faster and more accurate search results. In addition, SkyNet users can also search for united.com content from within SkyNetfor the first time.

* The new search functionality, powered by Google, appears inthe upper right-hand corner of SkyNet. This single search field now offers blended results, which include SkyNet and united.com content, as well as employee contact information.

* By typing an employee's name into the search field, you can find
their office and Unitel phone numbers, as well as their United e-mail address.

* With the same search box, you can also look for information that resides on SkyNet or united.com, including information that was published in past NewsReal stories and press releases.

* Once you enter a keyword or the person's name in the search field, the results will retrieve exact word matches on three tabs. "Search All" includes a blend of united.com and SkyNet content, while "SkyNet Only," and "united.com Only," each filter the content accordingly.  Employee names appear at the top of the results page and keyword hits appear below.

* These new enhancements are part of the company's strategic
initiative to improve SkyNet functionality and reliability for employees.

* If you have any general suggestions, comments on the Google
functionality or ideas for the SkyNet project team, share them by
filling out the SkyNet Feedback form. The Feedback link is in the
upper right corner on SkyNet.

----------------------------------------------------

Beginning July 30, United employees and retirees can take advantage of expanded interline travel privileges with Air Canada, Canada's largest domestic and international full service airline.

* Air Canada is a founding member of Star Alliance and provides direct service to over 170 destinations on five continents.

* "We've been working with Air Canada for some time to bring this travel privilege to United employees and retirees," said Christine Sanchez, senior specialist, International Sales. "We are pleased to announce this new agreement, which increases travel opportunities for all eligible United employees and retirees."

* For more information about the new and existing fare agreements between United and other airlines, visit SkyNet at Travel, Interline Travel Privilege, Individual Carrier Agreements. Carrier eligibility requirements and restrictions are continually updated.

* United is continuously working toward additional arrangements with carriers to offer employees and retirees additional interline travel privileges. Discussions with other carriers are currently underway and other announcements will be forthcoming.

* Note: For all interline space-available travel, tickets should be obtained as far in advance as possible. Also, employees and their travel eligible passengers are required to follow each airline's policies regarding dress code, minimum check-in time and baggage limits.

  More Info: IMPORTANT

----------------------------------------------------
* EasyCheck-in services are fast, easy and convenient -- however, only 50 percent of employees, travel eligibles and companions who travel use them.

* Using alternate methods of check-in enables customer service representatives to spend more time helping revenue customers who require extra assistance.

* To improve the check-in process, new features will be added to EasyCheck-in kiosks at all 138 United and United Express airport locations beginning Dec. 7. The enhancements will enable:

* travel eligibles to change their listing to a different flight on the same day of travel if they have not checked in for their original flight;

* companions traveling alone to change their flight -- though not the airport -- to an earlier or later time on the same day of travel; and

* other airline employees and United job applicants to check in for a United flight, but they will not be able to change their itinerary on the kiosks.
(VRU) at 1-800-UAL-LIST (1-800-825- 5478), prior to calling Reservations to check space availability, book company business and list for pleasure travel.

* Look under the Travel section of SkyNet on Dec. 15, for a demonstration of the new screens and functions that employees will see when they use an EasyCheck-in kiosk.
* It's also important to share your file number or record locator with your travel eligibles and companions to access EasyCheck-in.

* If the check-in process cannot be completed on the kiosk, a card will print out for you to take to a customer service representative, who will complete the check-in process for you.

* In addition and as a reminder, non-revenue travelers should first utilize the automated Voice Recognition Unit

Dear Fellow Pilots:

Due to considerable feedback from a number of you, the Company has agreed, effective November 1st, to restore employees' ability to obtain tickets on offline carriers by calling the toll free telephone number (888-874-1581) to obtain a locator number. The use of this toll free number had been a Godsend for commuting pilots and for employeesand family members who found themselves stranded and unable to get aboard UAL flights.

The Company has stated this procedure is being restored only for those circumstances when employees need to obtain offline tickets on short
notice and do not have enough time to obtain their tickets by US Mail or by using the airport ticket request drop-off boxes being installed at many airports.

The Company says it pays a cost to Galileo every time it issues a PNR, and as such decided – over ALPA's objections -- about a month ago to
eliminate the ability of employees to obtain a PNR over the telephone.
The Company argues that tickets issued at the ticket counter do not require a PNR locator number. ALPA's objections stemmed from our belief that most CSRs were not trained and/or would not have the time to handle employee ticket requests. The Company assured ALPA that CSRs were trained and that employees would not be turned away at the ticket counters if customers were in line. I passed on thosoffline tickets or they simply couldn't take the time, notwithstanding the Company's prior assurances.

As a result of your emails, we were able to persuade the Company to restore the ability of employees to obtain a locator number over the telephone

(888-874-1581) if required on short notice.

(See on the right ) a copy of the new interline ticketing procedures -- which will also be on SkyNet shortly ... Please read these procedures
carefully as they contain three different procedures for obtaining interline tickets -- more than two weeks out, less than two weeks out, or for same day travel. It also includes useful information for obtaining refunds.

Thanks again for taking the time to send the emails. They were invaluable in getting this procedure changed to one that will work for everyone.

Fraternally,

Captain Pat Palazzolo
UAL-MEC Pass Travel Chairman

If you have listed for your travel you can click on this link within 24 hours of your planned departure to print your Departure Management Card (DMC) and proceed directly to Security and on to the departure Gate.

(It works well, even for international travel. Most kiosks can scan/read your passport as well, saves the laborious input of passport info. ed)

* Beginning Dec. 7, employees, travel eligibles and companions must use EasyCheck-in Online or EasyCheck-in kiosks when checking in for flights.

United's EasyCheck-in services are designed to improve our customers' travel experience -- and yours, too. However, recent records show that only 50 percent of the 300,000 employees who travel monthly use EasyCheck-in services.

Employees, travel eligibles and companions are encouraged to use curbside check-in, EasyCheck-in Online(SM) and EasyCheck-in kiosks to check in for flights, especially with heavy load factors expected during the holiday travel season. Using alternate methods of check-in enables customer service representatives to spend more time helping revenue customers who require extra assistance.

EasyCheck-in services are fast, easy and convenient. You can even check your bags at an EasyCheck-in kiosk or curbside to save time.

The cut-off time to use an EasyCheck-in kiosk is 45 minutes before departure, if you are checking baggage, and 30 minutes if you have no baggage. Online check-in cut-off time is one hour before departure.

Something you may not know is that United Express flights' boarding priority is first come, first served, as opposed to boarding by seniority. Because of this, it's advantageous to check in online for UAX flights 24 hours in advance.

As a reminder, don't forget to share your file number or record locator with your travel eligibles and companions to access the EasyCheck-in kiosks at the airport, or EasyCheck-in Online through united.com. EasyCheck-in Online is available 24 hours in advance of scheduled departures. To do so, you, your eligibles and companions should visit www.united.com/employeetravel on a computer connected to a printer, to print your departure management cards or boarding passes.

DTW advised me that when sending back interline tickets for a refund that it is a good idea to remove the passenger receipt page located in the back in case they get lost etc. Also, they recommend that you send them by a trackable carrier such as FEDEX or UPS.

Also, FEDEX will not deliver to P.O. Boxes or P.O. ZIP codes so you must send them to:

Subject: Re: [UAL-Retiree] Help - Weblist vs. ual.com

The UAL.Com Seat Maps are NOT a good indicator.

The seat maps have many seats blocked. The Ecomony +5 is blocked so that those seat can only go to those who are entitled or paying to upgrade to those seats. The same can be said for aisle seats, though I do not know to what extent.

A recent event - the gate agent gave an economy customer a seat in the Ecomony +5 section because of some inconvenience the agent felt compelied to give to the customer. In minutes the phone rang at the gate and Revenue Accounting wanted to know where the money was for the upgrade?

Mileage deduction could also be used and recorded. It was not attached to the customers record. Also in the original seat chart set-up they do a 2 X 2 ; Window/aisle and aisle/window leaving the center seats blocked. We are to take care of those K-2 types and hi-mileage customers.

Those center seats will get used for NRSAs when they run out of every thing else. There may be seats blocked for crew rest seats in original seat chart displays - to be determined how many inflight attendants are working the trip and/or the need for rest-seats. Also higher fare customers may make seats seletion and even check-in for advance check-in customers.

There may be no-shows a/c over-sleeping - it happens. Seat charts you are looking at are NOT good indicators.

You do understand that United is VERY HARD at work to maximize the revenue.

This accounts for the auto authorizing of number of seats to be sold by space planning. This is done by segment and days of the week by average no-show percentages. United makes money by over-gaging; The volunteers pick a popular time to travel and we move them (revenue) to a later less popular flight. Also United knows that only 78% of the voucher coupons are ever used.

A word of caution - Companions Pass are for pleasure NOT BUSINESS travel. Someone on a companion pass going for a job interview is BUSINESS travel. Do not jeopardize your pass privileges by letting this happen. There are two booklets published and available though Benefit Services - OR - SkyNet rules on Companion Pass travel. I urge everyone to read the sponsoring employee guide and the one for the companion pass traveler. Companion Pass travelers are the Gates Agents biggest continuing problems - please do what you can to help the Gate Agent.

Back to best passenger counts: SkyNet and Apollo PXCs are in sync. The only thing is you cannot tell in advance what the over-gage percentage that is set at by Space Planning. You can see it happening but not how many are authorized.

Standby is not a guarantee you will get on. This past week NWA was sending many customers to United, often times effecting the number of standbys accommodated. If they want to travel encourage companions to go out for the first flights of the day and standby regardless - that is the way to get on. One little secret - do not leave the gate until that flight is pushed back. I have been accommodated numerous times when some one got off, fore what ever reason.

Hope this helps,

Bob Brumfield

Companion travel instructions:

* Listing companions for multiple flights on the same day to the same destination is not permitted,
nor is it necessary. If the companion cannot be accommodated on their desired flight, and there is
another flight that day with the same origin and destination, their listing will roll over to the
next scheduled flight.

* Employees must list their companions at least four hours before domestic travel and 12 hours for
international flights. Companions cannot create their own initial listings.

* You are responsible for keeping track of the number of companion segments used and ensuring that
no more than 24 companion segments are used per program year. Your 2007 companion segments are
shown under "My Coupons" in WebList.

* These important companion travel rules and others are listed in the "Companion Travel Guide" for
employees and retirees and the "Companion Brochure," a reference guide for companions. Both tools are available on SkyNet>Travel>Companion Travel Information.

To the group:

Through the Corporate headquarters Morehead Travel ( my house) of www.moreheadtravel. com ,I met a good guy with Carnival Cruise lines. Carnival has an interline department that a lot of people are not aware of.

My contact is a guy named Brian Jacoby and he can be reached at :

Brian Jacoby
1-800-819-3902 ext.85772
Email: bjacoby@carnivalpvp .com

He is a good guy (tell him I referred you).

If you get on his mailing list, it is different than the MAIN Carnival Mailing list for past guests, etc. He comes up with specials from time to time. Obviously he can discount cruises and ALWAYS can beat the WEBSITE which is good in itself. Unless a cruise if FULL, He has ALWAYS discounted the cruise between 10% and 50%.

But the IMPORTANT thing you asked about was his ability to NOT charge a single supplement for those people going solo. I have no exact numbers (please don't hold me to this) but when a cruise is only at the 75%-95% range which is most common when schools are in session, some stay-home holidays, and in hurricane season in the Caribbean, it is considered "fairly light". So the sales people have the ability to "deal". My last two cruises were $99 for 4 days and $350 for 7. One was MIA and the other FLL. He has flexibility to NOT charge a single supplement EXTRA and the price for one is the price for the cabin! If I am going to take someone with me to my room, I want to choose who it is!!!!!

You can play with Carnival's website and plan to book the cruise and see the list price and then enter your numbers like ONE (1). You will see instantly if the 1 price is much different than the TWO (2) price divided by 2. Often there IS a substantial ( 50% ish) charge for the single supplement ONLINE.

Then call Brian and ask him what he can do when you have a certain ship/cruise/ date in mind. You often get a day or so to think it over with no guarantees. I don't know if you know that airlines and cruise lines can and do change their fares some 4 times per day! You have to act and be ready to go if you want the good deals.

Both cruises in the last 6 months have been set up with less than 30 days notice. On one, I had 12 hours to make a commitment and the other about 48 hours. In my own situation, I can't plan more than 30 days out and so this works for me.

I know that they want people to fill up cruises, because they know that you will spend money on pictures, drinks, and shore excursions so they want a warm body in every cabin. The staff needs people to tip very honestly and your goal is to have a good time, be with your friends, or meet somebody.

It would be fun to put something together for people interested. The RUPA cruises have been good in the past and they are more high (er) end. I was on the first 5 or so and hope to go again.

As a retiree, you can only reserve one cabin, I recall. If someone is active, I think they can do three at the price that you can negotiate. But active or retired, Carnival's interline department will work with you. Brian has been good for me. I just need to win the lottery.

Another point is South Florida is the hub for a lot of cruises and this time of year is the unpredictable hurricane season (none yet) and that's why some people don't want to take cruise because sometimes it is unpredictable. I doubt you will get a discount on a cruise at peak season with anyone. Those people that have flexibility can do well and Brian is the guy who can make sure no Single supplement is charged. I'm 2 for 2 and he keeps begging me to go more often. I told him about the pension and he can't fix that either <bfg>!

JIM MOREHEAD

*  The program is only limping along. *

For example: Feb.6 - 2007. Not a busy day.

The Detroit desk could not help for a late minute same day emergency travel request. The Airport ticketing staff in LAX was not manning the ticket writing position but arrived 30 minutes later. However, they were NOT experienced in writing an ID 90 so had to wait for a supervisor. No one really had time to help out but our travelers had lots of time and the LAX CSR were understanding so eventually the tickets were written.

I'd be willing to pay for the PNR # so as to revive the old system that did work.     by editor AvN

The electronic certificate discount may not be reapplied toward the purchase of another ticket when exchanging or refunding your original ticket, except when the original ticket qualifies for a reduced fare (guaranteed airfare rule applies). Check with United.

Important Notes: Not all flights are eligible for an electronic certificate discount. In some instances you may find flights that are not electronic certificate eligible, because they have already been discounted and are less expensive than the electronic certificate eligible flights. This discount may only be used for up to four passengers traveling on the same itinerary. It may not be applied to previously ticketed reservations. This e-certificate is transferable, but void if sold or bartered.

Offer subject to change without notice. Other restrictions may apply.

Here is an old Reminder that is still appropiate.  Remember Dress Code During Pleasure Travel
----------------------------------------------------
Employees, their travel eligibles and companions have been turned away at the gate for being inappropriately dressed for non-revenue, space- available travel. The purpose of United's dress code -- which applies to travelers age 12 and above -- is to ensure that the appearance of employees and their eligible travelers reflects favorably upon customers.

These instances also place the customer service representatives (CSRs) working these flights in the awkward situation of serving as dress-code referees. To spare our CSRs this time-consuming duty -- and ensure that you,
and your travel eligibles and companions are not turned away from flights or denied the opportunity to travel first class for inappropriate attire -- please remember United's dress code for pleasure travel.

Not allowed in any class of service are flip-flops or thong sandals, shorts, T-shirts, tank tops, mini skirts, bare midriffs, workout attire or jogging suits. Jeans are prohibited for NRSA travelers listed for the first-class cabin.
